    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: Opened in November 2003, the Kierland is one of Arizona’s newest resorts. It’s already a hit with business travelers, golfers, couples seeking a quiet getaway, and families who enjoy the great outdoors. The entry is flanked by 12-foot-tall, cast-glass panels glistening with water that trickles down into a bed of river rock. The striking view from the entrance is of lake, golf course, and mountains. Arizona art, historical artifacts, and photographs are displayed throughout the resort.

Amenity highlights: The resort’s Troon-managed Kierland Golf Club offers three nine-hole courses with desert views, native plants, and more than 300 bunkers, lakes, and dry washes. A 19,000-square-foot clubhouse includes a golf school, pro shop, and restaurant. Agave, the Arizona Spa, has 20 treatment rooms and specializes in Native American–inspired remedies. Botanical-based treatments include the Blue Agave Paraffin Wrap and Desert Wildflower Wrap. The resort is a block from Kierland Commons, a 38-acre shopping village. A complimentary shuttle takes guests into Scottsdale.

Insider tip: Arizona’s official state historian, Marshall Trimble, worked with the Kierland staff for two years, providing them with a background in Arizona history to help answer guests’ questions. Hallways and lobbies have different Arizona themes, including geology, environment, and early exploration. The hotel’s Ali-Shonak Library includes books about Arizona.

Set on approximately 300 acres with spectacular desert and mountain views, this resort opened in 2003 as part of a planned community of shops, luxury condominiums, and golf. The 27-hole golf course was designed by Scott Miller, formerly a senior designer for Jack Nicklaus. The spa includes a fitness center with movement studio, juice bar, and Fit4Golf program. The resort also has two outdoor pools, a 110-foot water slide and a 900-foot-long flowing river for inner-tube trips, and a sandy beach with volleyball court.

The Tumbleweed Kids Club includes fun and educational supervised activities with an Arizona theme. Children also get bath toys, coloring books, and a sports bottle or “sippy cup,” filled with complimentary beverages at mealtime. At bedtime, they can dial the story line for sleepy-time tales over their guestroom telephone.

The resort includes five full-service restaurants, a Starbucks coffee bar in the lobby, and a lobby bar with cigars. The Kierland also has a business center, two ballrooms, 20 multi-function meeting rooms, and seven themed outdoor venues for meetings.
