    AMENITIES & SERVICES
What to expect: A quiet lobby with a fireplace and traditional furniture has dramatic views of the valley below, expressing this resort's dual nature as a romantic getaway and scenic playground. Couples enjoy the intimate, above-it-all feeling and the day spa. Athletic types take advantage of lighted courts and close proximity to hiking and mountain biking, and families like the pools and children's programs.

Amenity highlights: Two swimming pools, nine tennis courts with a pro shop, a children's activity program, a spa and adjoining boutique, a putting green, and elegant dining complete this desert resort.

Insider tip: Frank Lloyd Wright built a school of architecture in the Arizona desert in the 1930s, using local materials and student labor. The original buildings are still used by a functioning school that offers fascinating guided tours, just 8 miles from the Copperwynd.

This hotel offers two swimming pools, nine tennis courts, and a professionally staffed, 5,000-square-foot fitness center with up-to-date cardio training equipment, including Trotter treadmills and Precor elliptical trainers. An exercise studio offers aerobics classes, and there's a boutique at the spa. A putting green gives golfers a chance to hone their technique.
